Think Publishing is DIY?

I’m going to talk about writing and publishing your expert books.

One of the things that I hear most often from CEOs, business owners, entrepreneurs, and speakers is “I’m just going to do it myself” when asked about publishing. Many of them have said that they will just make their own publishing company, shrugging like it’s no big deal.

In reality, publishing houses are huge. The publishing industry has been around for several centuries and publishing houses have thousands of employees who each have their own specialty within the context of a publishing house. Even at Laurel Elite, our smaller but established publishing house, we have two dozen people on staff who are all specialized in what they do–whether it’s editing or the actual book production, to say nothing of distribution, marketing, sales.

In other words: there are tons of jobs in the context of a publishing house.

These well-meaning CEOs, business owners, entrepreneurs, and speakers just don’t know these facts. Typically, here is what happens to these people as I follow up with them months and years later. In the end they become people who never write again or never publish their books. More often, if and once they “get their books up on amazon” they find that no one has bought their books even after six months of putting them up.

They have wasted time, effort, and money–three things they do not have a lot of as very successful people who run a business.

Because of this wasted time, effort, and money they feel angry and discouraged.

The bottom line: the Do-It-Yourself solution ends up in a triangle of frustration–lack of success, lots of waste, and really bad feelings.

There’s a saying out there that rich people invest money to save time and poor people waste time to save money. If you are a CEO, business owner, entrepreneur, or speaker I’m going to make the assumption that you want to grow your business, make more money, feel rich–whatever that standard is for you. I know that you don’t want to be a poor person. So why are you acting like a poor person?

If you are ready for real results, if you are ready to publish a book that is going to grow your business and increase your revenue and client base I’d love to chat with you.
